Explore the Tip of FloridaSat January 14 to Sat January 21, 2012 Paddling— forested rivers, prairie marshes, bird filled bays and mangrove islands in the Gulf of Mexico. Walking—nature trails and boardwalks. Tent Camping — amid the wildlife of Florida -- Tent Camping — campgrounds amid the wildlife of Florida Two immense parks, Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve, contain a variety of tropical and temperate habitats. The uncommon wildlife and vegetation reflect these habitats that are unique to North America. Adjacent marine estuaries are populated with birdlife and other unusual wildlife. To an observer who is paddling or exploring on foot, the Tip of Florida offers uncommon wildlife and habitats not easily found elsewhere.
Schedule: The plan is for everyone to fly into Miami International on Saturday Jan 14, 2012. During the next week, our group will paddle each day in a variety of waters and habitats. From tent camps at two campgrounds — one located near the Big Cypress Preserve and the other near Everglades National Park, we will explore the Everglades. By paddling, hiking, visiting information centers and tent camping, everyone will experience the variety of the outdoors in the Everglades. On Sunday January 22, 2012 everyone departs from Miami International.
Leader: will be Byron Almquist who has led dozens of out of state trips for several decades. This will be his fifth visit to Everglades National Park. Besides the guide service, he will also provide the canoes, local transportation, campgrounds tent camping and breakfasts and most dinners while on the outing.
Paddlers Will Provide: their own transportation to Miami, raingear, appropriate outdoor clothing, restaurant meals (2) and lunches for six or seven days. Each person is also responsible for their own fees for any tram, air boat, swamp buggy or boat tour.
Trip Fee: will be $595 for one or $1,150 for two explorers
There is considerably more detailed information to be provided by the leader for those who are interested in the outing. Please send him a note asking for this info. Want more details: More Info
